Speedy Nygard faster than McDavid at Oilers skills competition

  • The Oilers put on a show in their annual skills competition in front of a packed house at Rogers Place on Sunday.
  • For a few hours everyone forgot the Oilers slipped out of a playoff position in the Western Conference standings for the first time this season.

“It was really fun and everybody was relaxed and having fun. It was a fun day,” said Oilers forward Joakim Nygard, who pulled the biggest surprise of the afternoon by winning the fastest-skater competition.

  • The Oilers resume their schedule by hosting the New York Rangers on New Year’s Eve and then head out on a five-game road trip.
