The Caps’ starting lineup today included six kids who have battled cancer

  • Earlier this week, Washington Capitals head coach Todd Reirden got to inform six kids Make-A-Wish recipients that they’d be included in the lineup for the Caps’ Hockey Fights Cancer game.

  • This in itself was fantastic, and today, we got to see them take the ice with their hockey heroes ahead of the Caps’ game against the visiting Vancouver Canucks.

  • Each of the honorary starters, who are all 18 years old or younger and have battled cancer, got to take to the ice with a different member of the Capitals in a heartwarming scene that no one will soon forget.

  • Is someone cutting onions?
  • The ‘Caps Fight Cancer’ initiatives also included lavender warm up jerseys that will be auctioned off, and even Captain (the team pup) is showing his support.
  • Seems like a great afternoon for hockey in Washington.
