Sabres speak to Rangers about Vesey

  • The Sabres are still searching around for a winger.
  • Buffalo has contacted the Rangers about acquiring Jimmy Vesey in a deal
  • Vesey notched 17 goals and a career-high 35 points in his third year with the Rangers this past season.
  • He has one year left on the two-year, $4.55-million deal he inked with New York last July.
  • This isn’t shocking, as the Sabres traded a third round pick in 2016 to the Nashville Predators in an attempt to sign the soon-to-be college free agent after it was clear he wasn’t going to sign with the Preds.
  • Ultimately he didn’t sign with Buffalo, but instead signed with the Blueshirts.
  • Vesey carries a cap hit of $2.275 million, and is in the final year of his contract with the Rangers.
  • He won the Hobey Baker Award as the NCAA’s top men’s hockey player in 2016.
